vRealize Operations (vROps) Error – Java.net.SocketException & Buffer space

By | August 21, 2015

Problem Statement

vROps node (Windows deployment) was going off-line every 12-24 hours, losing the ability to connect to either Product or Admin UIs via HTTPS.

Check the following log files to begin investigation (data\log\vcops)

  • casa.log
  • web.log
  • collector.log
  • api.log

The below errors were common across some of the log files.

java.net.SocketException: No buffer space available (maximum connections reached?): connect

exception: <urlopen error [Errno 10055} An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system lacked sufficient buffer space or because a queue was full

Windows Event Viewer displayed the following.

Event 7024 – vCenter Operations Analytics service terminated with service-specific error Incorrect Function

Restarting the Gemfire Locator service on the problem vROps node, fixed the issue in the short term.

A legacy adapter that was incompatible with vROps 6.0.  Removing the adapter and stopping the collecting of data, ensured vROps node was stable.

Problematic Management Packs cannot be uninstalled, as the feature doesn’t exist within the Product\Admin UI.  There are no manual steps or workarounds documented or supported from VMware at this time.
